I watched the news I saw a boy fall backwards through the sky and it seemed his view of all we left was seared into his eye

I watched the news I saw a young girl tie a rose onto a tank and I wondered who could be so brave and whose god I should thank
For showing me such madness he ought to know I almost sank in a river of insanity but I floated to the bank....
I watched the news I saw children trying not to cry as everything they loved was smashed before their eyes and they took all that they did to them with dignity and pride and I knew just how they felt but I couldn't tell them why
So tell me what you're thinking, tell me what you're trying to sell me, I hear the church bells ringing and there’s nothing they can tell me but the whispers getting louder and the rumble in my soul and the fears of many desperate men are on a roll
Like the sea that breaks on iron, the hint of far off thunder and the waves that they are making
